Did you know there are 87 jobs on a football field? The York Region Lions Fall tackle programs, geared towards junior players, put learning at the forefront. Everyone learns a variety of 'jobs' in a fun, inclusive environment. The programming is structured, with fully trained and certified coaches and club provided equipment.
*NEW - given the fluid nature of tackle football in light of the pandemic, YRFA will be opening registration for Fall Tackle at senior age groups. If high schools don't permit football in Fall 2021, and we have minimum roster numbers, we are engaged with the OFFL and will offer tackle programming.
Our tackle football programs are full contact. Players are taught contact fundamentals, with a focus on heads up football. Players are not put into a competition situation until they are comfortable with the fundamentals they have been taught through Lions programming. Please note that playing time is not guaranteed.
Our program runs mid-August, September and October. Each age group will have two practices per week (except for long weekend weeks) that are 2 hours long; usually M/W or T/TR. Sessions include skill development, learning plays, competition between groups. There will be 6-8 game days, on weekends. Half of these will be at 'home'. Our home games are on Sundays at Lions Homefield - St. Maximilian Kolbe CHS in Aurora, Ontario.
We provide all the equipment needed to participate in tackle programs with the exception of football cleats. Helmets are certified as mandated by Football Canada. Included in your registration fees are use of:
- helmet (fitted to your player)
- shoulder pads (fitted to your player)
- reversible game jersey (fitted to your player)
- game pants
