YRFA plays in two leagues, depending on the season. We are proud members of the OSFL (spring) and the OFFL (fall). Each league has separate rules on minimum rosters and call ups.
Each age group and discipline has minimum rosters to ensure that players are getting enough breaks from the game and that injured players are able to leave the field. Minimum roster numbers can be found on league websites (see Important Links on our homepage). We are required to:
- have a minimum roster to register a team
- have a minimum number of dressed players to win a game
So - if we are ever concerned about minimum roster, this is what we mean.
Both leagues allow call ups throughout the season. Call ups can occur for a variety of reasons, but are usually because junior players can augment a senior season. Call ups are only permanent once the player has played three games at the next age level. No single call up is permanent otherwise, and the player can return to their home team. Call ups are an excellent exposure opportunity for junior players, and can happen at any age level. These are proposed by head coaches, and approved by the Director of Coaching & Player Development.
