The only weather the York Region Lions do not practice or play in, is a thunderstorm. Volunteers watch the forecast carefully, and will issue notifications ahead of time (when possible) to cancel practices or games in the event of lightening.
Please note:
- Volunteers must be adhered to when calling a practice due to lightening
- Players must exit the field immediately, and remove their helmets and shoulder pads (metal)
- Players should take immediate cover and remain at the field. This can be in vehicles or, depending on the field, under school awnings
- There must be a minimum of 20 minutes without lightening for players to be allowed back on the field, after removal from the first strike. If lightening strikes and it hasn't been 20 minutes since the last strike, the count to 20 minutes begins again. More than 30 minutes of lightening will result in practice cancellation.
